Record and schedule IPTV on your Mac

Playova on Mac records the channel you are watching or a programme you schedule from the guide. A recording only runs while the Mac is awake, so a few settings matter more than on a television.

In short

A recording saves a broadcast from your own source to your Mac. You can start one from the live player or schedule one from the programme guide; scheduled recordings run while Playova is open and the Mac is awake, online and connected to writable storage.

Record now or schedule

While a live channel plays, start recording from the player. To plan ahead, open the programme guide, choose an upcoming programme and schedule it, or schedule by time when your source has no guide.

Keep the Mac awake

Closing the lid can put a MacBook to sleep and interrupt a recording. Leave the Mac open and plugged in, or use an external display with the lid closed only if your Mac stays awake that way. Keep Playova open; a recording cannot start while the app is closed.

  • Playova open when the programme starts.
  • The Mac awake, online and on power.
  • Enough free space where recordings are saved.

Your provider's part

Your provider must allow recording, and the recording needs a free connection from your source. If your subscription allows a single stream, Playova asks before a recording takes the line you are watching on.

If a recording says it was missed

Playova could not run it at the required time: the Mac may have been asleep or off, or the app was not running. Check these, then schedule again.

Questions and answers

Will a recording run with the lid closed?

Usually not. Closing the lid puts most MacBooks to sleep, which stops the recording.

Do recordings appear on my other devices?

No. A recording stays on the Mac that made it.

Does it record more than one channel at once?

Each recording needs its own free connection from your source; check your provider's limit.
