Fix common IPTV problems: buffering, EPG, login, sound
Most IPTV problems come from one of four places: the provider, the connection, the device or the player. This guide helps you find which one, so you change the right thing.
In short
When a channel buffers, a playlist will not load or the guide is empty, first check whether the same thing happens on another device or another channel. If it happens everywhere, the provider or the connection is the cause. If it happens on one device only, the device or the player is.
Channels keep buffering
Buffering means the stream arrives slower than it plays. Try a channel in lower quality first: if it plays smoothly, your connection is too slow for the higher quality at that moment. Use a cable or a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network for the television, and close other downloads.
Many subscriptions allow only one connection at a time. If the same login is open on another device, the provider may cut or slow the stream. In Playova you can raise the buffer in the playback settings so short drops do not interrupt the picture.
The playlist will not load
Copy the M3U address into a browser on the same network. If it does not download, the address has expired, is mistyped or is blocked by your network. Some providers only answer from the country of the subscription.
A very large list can take a minute to import the first time. Playova keeps it in a local library afterwards, so later starts are quick.
Xtream Codes login fails
Enter the server address exactly as the provider sent it, including http:// or https:// and the port number, for example http://example.com:8080. Usernames and passwords are case-sensitive.
If the login worked before and stops, the subscription may have expired or reached its connection limit. Your provider can confirm both.
The programme guide (EPG) is empty
The guide comes from your provider, not from the player. Xtream Codes providers usually include it. With an M3U playlist, the guide comes from the address the playlist names, or from the provider when the M3U address carries your login; a plain M3U link may have no guide.
If programmes start earlier or later than the guide shows, the guide uses a different time zone from your device. In Playova, use Shift programme times in the guide settings of that source.
Picture but no sound
Sound and picture use separate formats. Televisions in particular may not decode every sound format, such as AC-3, E-AC-3 or DTS. Try another audio track in the player first.
Playova carries sound unchanged whenever the device can play it and converts it only when it cannot. If one channel stays silent on one device but plays elsewhere, tell us the device and channel through Help in the app.
Subtitles are missing
Check that a subtitle track is selected. Text subtitles such as SRT and WebVTT and image subtitles such as PGS and DVB need different playback paths, and not every device draws image subtitles.
Our test library covers the common subtitle formats; see the format testing page for the full list.
Questions and answers
How do I know whether the provider or the player is the problem?
Open the same channel on a second device or in a second player. If it fails in both, the provider or the connection is the cause.
Why does a channel work on my phone but not on my TV?
The television may not decode that video or sound format, or its network may be slower. Try another audio track, and a cable connection.
Does a VPN fix buffering?
Only when your internet provider slows streaming traffic. Otherwise a VPN adds a step and can make buffering worse.
