Record live TV and schedule recordings on Fire TV
Playova for Fire TV (Fire OS) can record the channel you are watching or a programme you choose from the guide. Recordings are kept on the device and play back from there.
In short
A recording in Playova saves a broadcast from your own source to the Fire TV device. You can start one immediately from the live player or plan one from the programme guide; the plan belongs to that device and runs while the device is on and the app is not force-stopped.
Before you record
Your provider must allow recording, and the recording needs a free connection from your source. If your subscription allows a single stream, recording and watching another channel cannot happen at the same time.
- Enough free storage on the device.
- Power and network connected for the whole programme.
- A source that allows recording and has a free connection.
Record what you are watching
While a live channel plays, open the player controls and start recording. The recording continues until you stop it or the programme ends.
Schedule from the guide
Open the programme guide, choose an upcoming programme and schedule it. Scheduled jobs and finished recordings are managed on the same device. A guide is needed for this; if your source has none, record live instead.
If a recording is missing
A plan cannot run if the device was unplugged, the app was force-stopped, storage was full or the source had no free connection. Check these and the recording list, then plan again.
Questions and answers
Can I record while the Fire TV is off?
No. The device has to be powered and the app must not be force-stopped when the programme starts.
Do recordings move to my other devices?
No. Recordings and their plans stay on the Fire TV that made them.
Can I record on Android TV or LG?
Recording is available on Windows, Mac, Linux and Fire TV with Fire OS. Recording to a USB drive on Samsung TVs is being prepared; LG TVs and Android TV have no recording screen.
